Smartphone USB tethering

This guide shows how to set-up Smartphone USB tethering on your USB-port enabled LEDE device via LUCI webui. LEDE device will use your smartphone mobile data as WAN.

Easiest way to do this is to have WAN via LAN port when setting up Smartphone tethering.

  1. Login to luci (e.g. http://192.168.1.1)
  2. Go to 'System' → 'Software'
  3. Click 'Update' (This will update software repositories)
  4. Copy-paste “kmod-usb-net kmod-usb-net-rndis kmod-usb-net-cdc-ether usbutils udev” (without quotes) to 'Download and install package' and press 'OK' (This will install needed packages to support Smartphone tethering)
  5. Connect your Smartphone to your LEDE device and enable USB Tethering from your Smartphone
  6. Go to 'Network' → 'Interfaces'
  7. Find red 'WAN' interface and click 'Edit'
  8. Go to 'Physical Settings' tab
  9. Choose 'usb0' as 'Interface' (This will change WAN interface from LAN to usb0 (Smarthphone))
  10. Click 'Save and Apply'

Now your Smartphone mobile data works as WAN for your LEDE router.
